2020 was a year like no other. It was rough for a lot of people. At the end of 2019, I was ready for the “Roaring 20s”. Who knew that in March, we’d be in a global pandemic? This year has tested me mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I made it through, and if you’re reading this, you did too.
In this post, I’m going to share what happened in 2020.
In the past, I used to set a lot of goals for myself. I only would complete half or less of them. I stopped doing that last year. The 2 goals that I posted in January 2020 on the blog are listed below.
Goal #1 – Be on 20 Podcast Shows
Goal #2 – $20,000 Side Hustle Income
How did I do?
I didn’t reach either goal. I ended up being on 10 podcast shows/IG lives. As far as the income goal, I’m about $6000 short of that. I’m not even mad. To get that more than halfway to achieving my goals after that wild ass year is a sign that 2021 is going to be epic.
I have one main goal for 2021. It is to focus on business growth. That is what my mind will be on. There will be small goals as well, but the main thing is to grow the business.
I’m coming up with plans and steps to make this happen. Of course, I still want to bring in an extra $20,000, but I’m writing down ideas and coming up with a plan. To get there, I have to increase inventory with my resell business. More items equal more sales.
If you’re new to my site, you may not know this, but I got fired in March. It was the highest paying job that I’ve had. It was a blessing in disguise. I hated that place. It was a glorified call center. I was only there for 6.5 months. Again, the money was good, but everything else sucked.
During my time as a full-time entrepreneur, I had the time to think and work on my business. I realized some things about my blog that I’ve been working to improve. I should see those results in March and April. I also realized that I enjoy my freedom a lot. I didn’t work for 7 months, so I got used to going to the post office at different times of the day. I’m really going to work hard and get to where I want to be.

Getting fired during a pandemic is wild as hell. You can either sink or swim. I swam. I doubled down on my resell business and because of that, I was still able to make money. This pandemic thought me that things can change at any moment. You can’t solely rely on the government to help you. You have to find a way to make things happen. Here is a post that features 40 ways to make extra money. Start with them.
Minding My Business
At one point in my life, I would try to get folks to do a side hustle or find a side gig because I knew that it was a necessity. Now, I just mind my business. You can’t save everyone. To be honest, everybody isn’t meant to be a boss or a leader. Some people just aren’t built for that. They may not even want to do that and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve learned to mind my business and help people that want it.
In January of 2020, my debt was $63,824.55. It’s now at $52,899.76. It decreased by nearly $11,000! The crazy thing is that this happened during the pandemic. That’s an amazing stat right there. Even though things weren’t the best, I was still able to put money on the debt. 2021 will be no different.
I don’t even remember when I started doing my blog audit. I did one a couple of years ago and thought that I was finished. I wasn’t. Blogging has changed so much since I started taking it seriously in 2015. Back in the day, I had tons of blog posts under 600 words and I was getting great traffic on Pinterest. Things change and you have to change with them. I started studying SEO in mid-2020 and realized that I had some work to do. I deleted another 50 blog posts and had to make updates to another 150.
The updates consisted of new pins, adding more content, and adding keywords. This audit has not been easy, but I know that it will be worth it. I even still found a few Butler Journal links in some posts. That’s crazy. I wanted to finish the audit by the end of December, but it didn’t happen. As of this writing, I have 45 articles that still need one of the updates that I mentioned earlier. I should be able to have everything done by the end of January.

Since I’ve been studying SEO, I’ve learned a lot. I have to treat this thing as a business if I want to take it to the next level. That is what I want to do. I’m looking for a new VA to help with tasks. Also, I’ve hired a couple of writers to help me with some of the blog posts.
I had 57,000 page views in 2020. That’s not going to cut it. In 2019, I had 69,000 and in 2018, I had 131,00. I’m going in the wrong direction. The traffic has gone down due to several reasons including a Google update, Pinterest, and me deleting posts, but that’s no excuse. I’m looking to get more traffic this year, so I’m posting a lot more in January and February. I’ll publish 3 posts a week. They will be very good and full of information. Make sure that you are subscribed so you don’t miss anything. After I see how things go during those months, I’ll decide if I want to keep that schedule up or if I should go back to my 2 posts a week schedule.
The resell business has been booming. I sell items on eBay, Facebook, Mercari, OfferUp, Craigslist, Poshmark, and Nextdoor. eBay has done the best with Mercari, Facebook, and Poshmark doing well too. In total, I sold something in 266 out of the 366 days in 2020. That’s a hell of a stat. I sold over 500 items. I’m going to focus on listing even more things in 2021. If you need help with eBay, check out my webinar, eBay for Starters. I also have a course. There are a lot of entrepreneurs that sell courses and constantly raise the prices. I want my course to always be affordable. It will always be $99. To get more information about my course click the link below.
My t-shirt business took a slight hit due to the pandemic, but it began to rebound in the second half of the year. I had multiple sales on Teespring, Merch by Amazon, and Redbubble during the 4th quarter of 2020. I’m hoping that the trend continues in 2021.
Many people didn’t travel that much because of the pandemic. While I didn’t get any new passport stamps, I was able to do a few small trips with my girl. I was able to go to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Memphis, and Nashville. I was glad to. get out of the house and go somewhere.
As I stated earlier, I updated a lot of my old blog posts during this audit. Many of them were travel related. Below are a few of them. They could be resources if you want to travel this year.
2020 was a wild year, but to be honest it wasn’t too bad for me. I learned so much about myself this year. I feel like it’s preparing me for a great 2021.
