A Day in A Part-Time Blogger’s Life

For years, I’ve seen bloggers share what an average day for them is. I figured I might as well give it a shot and share with you what an average day in this blogger’s life looks like.. Since I’m a part-time blogger, I’ll share what I do on a weekday and on a Saturday. I’m starting with the weekday first.

6:20 – 6:50 AM

I typically get up between this time. I will keep it real with you, I’m not the biggest fan of getting up early unless I’m traveling. I’m a night owl. I go to bed after midnight every night. I have three alarms that go off starting at 6:20 AM. Many days, I get up after the third one.

6:50 – 7:40 AM

I shower, meditate, and get ready for work during this time. I started meditating a couple of years ago for 5-10 minutes each morning and it’s a huge difference. It helps to get me ready for the day.

7:40 – 8:15 AM

Without any traffic, I can get to work in 15 minutes. I love that commute. I’m not a fan of sitting in my car for hours in traffic. Once I arrive to work, I chill in my car for 5-10 minutes before I walk into the office.

8:15-9:00 AM

I get prepared for the day. I turn on my work computer and check my mailbox. I also check my e-mails.

9:00 – 1:30 PM

During this time, I’m doing my job-related work. Some days are busy as hell, while others are pretty easy. I may share a blog post or two if I have some downtime.

1:30 – 2:30 PM

Lunchtime! This is the best part of the day in this blogger’s life. I approve and answer blog comments during this time.

2:30 – 4:00 PM

I do job-related work. If it’s a slow day, I may research future blog topic ideas or something.

4:00 – 5:15 PM

I do more blog stuff. I edit old blog posts. I also type new blog posts during this time. Sometimes I post in Facebook groups or reply to tweets. Those things are critical. They help new people see my blog.

5:15 – 5:45 PM

I get off of work at 5:15. This is another of my favorite parts of the day in a blogger’s life. I get to my parking deck around 5:20. I’m usually home by 5:45. Did I say how much I love my quick commute?

5:45 – 6:30 PM

I watch the end of PTI and decompress after the workday. It’s good to just be lazy for a little while. A constant routine can tire you out.

6:30 – 7:30 PM

I either relax at home, go to the gym, or run in my neighborhood. I don’t have a set schedule. It just depends on how I’m feeling that day, I do try to work out at least 2-3 times a week though. As the saying goes, health is wealth.

7:30 – 8:30 PM

During this time, I’m cooking and eating dinner. You can also catch me watching Jeopardy unless there is a sporting event on.

8:30 – 12/12:30 AM

I’m probably watching the game (NBA, NFL, or MLB) and doing something blog related. I can be editing posts, coming up with ideas or writing. I actually wrote this post while watching the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants play. I’ll say that I probably do this two or three times a week. If I’m not working, I’m probably watching sports or a movie.

12:30 – 6:20 AM

During this time I’m getting some sleep or at least trying to get some sleep. My sleep patterns have been over the place the last few months.

My weekdays can be up and down. Some are more exciting than others.  Below is the Saturday schedule for a part-time blogger’s life.

7:00 – 8:00 AM

There is no such thing as sleeping in when you get to a certain age. I’ve tried to sleep in longer, but it just doesn’t happen. I’m up every Saturday between 7- 8 AM. It’s ridiculous, but I’m used to it now.

8:00 – 9: 00 AM

I take this hour to do some reading. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to enjoy reading books more. Reading also helps to keep your mind fresh. If I’m not reading during this time, I’m probably listing to a meditation video on YouTube.

9:00 – 10:30 AM

I shower and eat a light breakfast. I also may get a quick run in before I shower and eat. It just depends on what I have planned for the day.

10:30 – 3:00 PM

It depends on the week. During this time, I’m either working on blog content or I’m at the thrift stores looking for items to flip.

3:00 – 5:00 PM

I’m usually getting home at this time. I grab a snack to eat. If I went to the thrift stores, I take pictures of the items and post them on eBay.

5:00 PM – Until

During this time, I’m enjoying the rest of my weekend. I could be hanging with my friends, or I could be on a date with my lady. It just depends on the day. As you can see, my days aren’t too crazy. I take the time to make sure I get things done. I could tweak it here and there, but I think I’m doing pretty well.

I try to work too much on every weekend just because you do need some kind of downtime. I do more work on Sundays than Saturdays. The older that I get, the more that I enjoy Sundays. It is a calm and chill day which is perfect for me to do work.

As I continue to get better as a blogger and businessman, I know that I’ll be able to chill during Saturday and Sunday. Right now, I can’t afford to. I have to use my time wisely. I know that for this blogger’s life, the end goal isn’t to be working for someone forever. I eventually want to work for myself fulltime. Right now, I have to do what I have to do.

For my fellow bloggers out there, how does a day in your blogger’s life look?
