When you think about Orlando, the first thing that you probably comes to mind is Disney World. There are more things to do down there besides Disney. In today’s post, I want to share with you some fun things to do in Orlando that are not Disney related.
Universal Orlando Resort
Universal Orlando is a theme park resort. They are Disney’s biggest competitor. The area consists of Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Universal CityWalk Orlando.
Universal Studios Florida is a theme park that focuses on movies and television. It is separated into eight areas which are Production Central, Woody Woodpeckers Kidzone, Hollywood, Park Wide Entertainment, New York, San Francisco (Closed. Being changed into Fast & Furious), and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley.
Universal Islands of Adventure is a theme park that is divided into seven sections. They are Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing.
Universal CityWalk Orlando is the only area that I’ve been to at the Universal Orlando Resort. CityWalk is an entertainment, dining, and shopping district. It is a very fun place to go to. There are numerous places to eat such as Pat O’Brien’s Bar, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and NBC Sports Grill & Brew. There is also an AMC Theater and a couple of clubs out there including the Bob Marley club. If you want to go somewhere to people watch, CityWalk is the place to be.
Orlando Magic Game
The next item on the fun things to do in Orlando list is to check out an Orlando Magic game. They play their home games at the Amway Center which is located in downtown Orlando. They have a young team and are currently in the rebuilding process. That means the tickets shouldn’t be that expensive. I’ve been to a couple of Orlando Magic games over the years. If you’re an NBA fan, you will enjoy the atmosphere. For ticket info, visit StubHub today.
Orlando is home to a lot of shopping areas. The Florida Mall is one of the largest single-story malls in the country. It is located near the Orlando Airport. The Mall at Millenia is an upscale mall located on International Drive. It is home to the largest Macy’s in central Florida. Orlando is also home to several outlet stores as well. You can find a lot of deals at the outlet stores.
There are over 170 golf courses in the Orlando area. Orlando is the home of The Golf Channel. The Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Reunion Resort, Waldorf Astoria Club, and Grand Cypress Resort are a few that you should check out.
ICON Park is an entertainment complex featuring games and fun for the whole family. Explore over 40 amazing restaurants, boutique shops, funky bars, and amusement park rides. There is something for every age group to have fun at the ICON park. The Wheel and the StarFlyer are amongst the most popular rides. The Wheel gives you a very smooth ride while swinging around in mid-air, even when you’re at 400-feet.
However, if you want to experience some thrill, you can try the Orlando StarFlyer. Claims to be the world’s tallest swing ride attraction standing at 450 feet. See Central Florida through new eyes along with the cool breeze in your face and all of Orlando below your feet.
The Kennedy Space Center
If you’re interested in space and want to learn something new, then a visit to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a must. Experience the world of manned space flight, from early technology to the latest developments. The trip to NASA’s launch headquarters is a totally crazy experience. Remember to buy some exciting space ice cream! A must-do for any space enthusiast and a welcome alternative to theme parks.
One of the most unique and often romantic excursions adults can enjoy in Orlando is going on a leisurely cruise along Clearwater Harbor. Walk the deck, experience the beautiful views, then choose from several dining options on your daytime cruise. This will be the most relaxing two hours you will spend on your entire trip.
Fun Spot America
Fun Spot America is another fun attraction in Orlando. Perfect for those who are really into theme parks. You can find classic rides like roller coasters, Ferris wheels, go-karts, bumper cars, and more, this exciting park is sure to leave you with happy memories. If you’re a thrill-lover, then the exhilarating Skycoaster is the must-do – this thrill ride is like skydiving without a plane.
Tour Daytona Speedway
This iconic track is the home of the Daytona 500 NASCAR series. Whether you’re rooting for Kyle Busch or Dale Earnhardt, Jr., or any other top NASCAR racers, you’ll want to take a tour of the legendary Daytona Speedway. Racing fans won’t want to miss the chance to get to the backstage of this historic race track. You can even get a private tour to sites like the garages, Victory Lane, and even the Motorsports Hall of Fame America.
Note: Daytona is about an hour away from Orlando. It’s worth the drive, though.
Ranked as the 10th most visited amusement park in the US, SeaWorld Orlando, is a wonderful aquatic world theme park. With fun rides, entertaining shows, and educational exhibits, it is a world-class park providing a unique experience for the whole family. SeaWorld has been involved in habitat protection to rescue and rehabilitation efforts of marine life for more than 50 years. There is a fun activity for every age-group.
