How I Made An Extra $12,405.11 In 2019

This post may contain affiliate links. Feel free to view my disclosure here.

2019 started off rough. I had issues with my rebrand and I had to get two wisdom teeth extracted during the first week. The year began slowly for me. I eventually found my groove and got things going. By the end of 2019, I was able to bring in extra $12,405.11. That’s a decent number, but I should have done better. In 2018, I made $13,927.27 in side hustle income. In 2019, I made a little over $1500 less. I’m trending the wrong way, but I’m not worried. I had a couple of months where eBay was super slow. Also, my blog traffic was nowhere near where it was in 2018. That made my blog income smaller. I’ll get into that in a minute.

First, I want to share with you how much I made in the 4th quarter of 2019. I was able to bring in $3413.37. Here’s a breakdown of the numbers.

EBay – $1748.95

Sponsored Posts – $447.08

Other Selling Platforms – $421.71

Uber Eats/ Door Dash – $301.60

Ads – $158.02

Merch by Amazon/Teespring – $141.25

Other – $109.76

Affiliate – $85

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2018, those numbers are better.

2019 Breakdown

As I stated earlier, I brought in an extra $12,405.11 in 2019. While it was less than what I made on the side in 2018, there were quite a few bright spots. Let’s get a look at these numbers.

EBay – $6668.70

EBay is number on the extra income list for 2019. That’s not a surprise to me. I’ve been focusing a lot and it’s paying off. In 2018, I only made $4800. In 2019, I had an $1800 increase. I’ve learned a lot and started selling all kinds of items. I’ll continue to sell even more items this year.

Sponsored Content – $1531.41

Last year, sponsored content was number one on the list. This year, its number two, but the amount was much lower. I didn’t accept as many sponsored content offers at all last year. Maybe better companies will contact me this year.

Other Selling Platforms – $1243.46

This stream is in the same place as it was last year. The good thing is I made almost $200 more. I did even more cross-posting last year. I have more items in more places and it is paying off. In March, I’m starting a series on my site called “7 Weeks of Cross-Posting”. Each week (for 7 weeks), I’ll be spotlighting a different place where you can flip items online. Make sure that you’re on my email list so that you can be one of the first people to see the posts once they’re published.

Uber Eats/ Door Dash – $1094.49

We have a new entry on the list this year. In the summer, I started doing Uber Eats and Door Dash. It was easy money. I slowed down a little due to the cooler weather and the early nights. I’ll start this side hustle back up in the spring.

Misc. – $981.81

This section includes course sales, Rakuten, and other random things. Hopefully next year, some things that are here will have a section of their own.

Ads – $544.92

I made less in ads last year. That’s due to less traffic coming to my site. This will not be the case this year. I’m going out on a limb to say that I’ll more than double this amount.

Merch by Amazon/Teespring – 207.09

I’m happy to finally have a section for my shirt sales. It’s been a long time coming. In the past, I’ve never made over $100 in a year. In 2019, I doubled that amount. I’ve been testing different designs and promoting a lot more. This year, I’ll be doing even more promo I’m excited to see where this income goes this year.

Affiliate Income – $133.23

My affiliate income was horrible in 2019. In December I talked with one of my friends and they told me that I didn’t have enough posts focused on affiliate offers. I looked back through my site and realized that they were right. I was so busy working on improving my eBay income and growing the t-shirt money, that I neglected this stream. I plan on reevaluating my affiliate strategy and doing much better this year.

I learned a lot in 2019 about my side ventures. I see the ones that are doing great and I see the ones that I need to work on. If I plan on reaching that goal of $20,000, I’m going to have to get to work. I’m up for the challenge.

Below are some side hustle resources that will get you started

Uber Eats

If you want to make money driving, but don’t want to deal with people in your car, check out Uber Eats. I make $20-$25 an hour when I drive. It’s easy money. Sign up here to get started today.

Door Dash

Want to make an easy $100 with Door Dash? Door Dash currently has a sign-up bonus where new users can get 15000 Swagbucks when they sign-up for the program through the Swagbucks website. The 10,000 Swagbucks is equivalent to $100. You get that about 30 days after you complete your first Door Dash delivery. Sign up for Swagbucks here. Then search for the Door Dash offer.

Bluehost

None of this would have happened if I never started blogging. The Butler Journal has been hosted with Bluehost since 2013. If you are looking to take your blog to the next level, you should consider them. You can get your hosting for as little as $3.95 per month (this low price is only available through my unique link).

Go Daddy

GoDaddy is one of the best places to locate and purchase a domain name. They are advertised as the world’s largest domain name website. I purchased a domain for another website that I had a couple of years ago for under $5. That’s a heck of a price. Head over here to see what domain deals are eligible.
