why you should start a blog

Starting a blog or a YouTube channel may be one of your goals. You may have asked yourself, “Should I start a blog?” hundreds of times. My answer is yes, do it. In today’s post, I will explain why you should start a blog. I’ll be sharing some ideas that worked for me when I started.

If you’re on the fence about why you should start a blog, today’s post is just what the doctor ordered.

Teach People

The first reason why you should start a blog is so that you can teach people things. If you know a lot about a subject or topic, your blog could be a platform to educate them. When I talk about content, it can be something minor.

You can write about something as simple as how people can have a productive day and what steps they can take to make every day worthwhile. Similarly, if you enjoy cooking, you can write about recipes, healthy meals, etc.

The truth is that as long as your content is helping people feel better and helping them solve their problems, you will always have an audience. Keep that in mind when you are growing your blog. When you figure out your niche, you can capitalize on it.

As I’ve improved my finances, I’ve used My Money Chronicles to let people know how I did things, such as increasing my credit score by 160+ points in 8 months. Yeah, that happened.

Your audience is out there. You have to make sure you write good content and educate them. Trust me. You will get better the more that you write.

Motivate People

If you have a compelling story about your life, you can use your blog to motivate people. One of the reasons I started blogging was because I read blogs where people struggled with how debt affected their life, and they made a way out of it. Making Sense of CentsYoung Adult Money, and Michelle is Money Hungry are three blogs I started reading in late 2012/early 2013. Those sites motivated me and kept me going even when I thought about quitting.

There is something else you should avoid when trying to put yourself out there: self-doubt. One way by which you can overcome self-doubt is by having the right people around you. Another way is to write down all the reasons that are responsible for this awkward feeling and decide to solve them one after the other.

Here is how I overcame self-doubt on my journey to building my blog.

When I started blogging, I was curious to know if my story was motivating or not. Some people used to tell me it was, but I still was not sure. I kept at it, though. Eventually, I was able to change my mindset. Now, I totally believe in myself, my blog, and my business.

Things have gotten so much better for me since I started. I still have a decent amount of debt, but the numbers decrease significantly yearly. I’ve found my stride and have finally been able to start making more payments on it.

Hold Yourself Accountable

Believe it or not, a blog can help to hold you accountable. I set several goals over the years. I post some of them on my website at the beginning of each year. Every few months, I go back and review them. This gives me the motivation to try and complete them. I’ve even had readers ask me about them sometimes.

Being able to hold myself accountable has changed my life. I can achieve much more every year than I used to. It has also helped to improve my engagement with my audience because they can tell that my blog is more than just an avenue to make money.

It is a place where they can learn enough to help them get out of debt and hold themselves accountable for the state of their lives.

Help You Grow

Next on this list of why you should start a blog is growth. A blog can help you grow as a person. I wasn’t a writer before I started blogging. I still don’t consider myself to be a writer, but my skills have gotten much better. My first-ever blog post was horrible. It was short as hell. Honestly, it sucked. After you write a lot, something starts to happen.

You get better with it. Besides writing better, a blog will help you grow by expanding your computer knowledge. I knew very little about WordPress, designing images, or how to advertise effectively via social media. A blog will also help you practice consistency because you will begin to feel indebted to your virtual audience, who will expect to see more of your content. And you would not want to let them down.

Thanks to blogging, I now know all of these things and live a happier and more fulfilled life.

Help Your Business

If you have a business, a blog can help it. For example, if you have a product-based business, you can write reviews about the products on your site. You can then promote those posts on different social media websites. It could get you some new customers.

Through your blog content, you can direct people to your YouTube channel, if you have one, and grow that as well. After all, growing a YouTube channel is another goal for many people. It’s a goal for me, so make sure you subscribe to my channel here

It Can Change Your Life

My blog has changed my life. You may think I’m joking when I say this, but I’m not. When I started this site, I was working at a low-paying job that I was beginning to hate and struggling with money.

My only semi-consistent side hustle at the time was selling mixtapes, but that market was dying. Now, I have a legit business and a side hustle growing monthly. I’m also making a dent in my debt.

Blogging has allowed me to meet and become friends with many great people who also happen to be bloggers and small business owners. It has helped me connect with amazing people worldwide who enjoy reading and engaging with my content.

It has made me more responsible and taught me even more to value people and contribute to their well-being in my own way.

Without a blog, none of this would have happened.
