2021 Year In Review

Before I get into details about 2021, I first want to share with you my December 2021 debt update. My debt went from $42,989.21 to $42,428.49. That’s a drop of $560.72.

Earnest ⬇️ from $14,997.21 to $14,636.49

Nelnet ⬇️ from $27,992 to $27,792

It’s a good drop due to everything that’s going on. I’ll be able to add more to the debt in a couple of months. All I can say is that it’s literally about to go down.

2021 was a continuation of 2020 for me. That was a good thing.

I don’t even think I shared my 2021 goals on the blog this year. I only had two major ones. One was an income goal. The other was a website traffic goal.

I technically reached my income goal, but I need to be more consistent with it. It’s something that I know will continue to get better in 2022. My second goal was a website traffic goal. I didn’t get anywhere near that goal. However, I do know what I need to do now. I just gotta make it happen and remain consistent.

Job Situation

After getting fired in 2020, I changed how I looked at jobs. After I got hired later that year, I immediately started to think about what I really wanted to do. Instead of just working a bs job for money, I decided that I wanted to work in positions where I could learn things. This year, I left higher education and took a remote role as an SEO Consultant. This has been game changing. I’ve been able to work at home which has allowed me to save more money and not worry about a commute. I’m also working in an industry where I’m learning more about websites and what makes them rank. Everything that I learn, I will be able to implement it to My Money Chronicles.

The Blog

I went through and deleted more blog posts that weren’t providing value. I edited and added more content to a lot of them. That’s going to continue next year. I feel as though, I’m sitting on a gold mine of content. I just gotta change a few things and boom, the traffic will be on the way. Once I do more keyword research and SEO updates, I have a feeling that my organic traffic will skyrocket.

While my organic traffic is slowly growing my social media traffic has fallen over 75%. Pinterest really did a number on my site when they changed the algorithm for a while. I was trying to get traffic back. Now I’m testing out other sources. We’ll see if they work next year. I believe they will. Time will tell.

My Debt

My debt was $52,899.36 in January 2021. It’s currently at $42,428.49. That’s a drop of $10,470.87. I expect the amount to be even more next year. After my wedding, I’ll be able to apply even more money on my debt again.

I only have student loan debt left. One private loan and one federal loan. The pause on payments for federal loans has helped me a lot during the last two years. Without having to worry about interest, the principal is finally moving. As far as my private loan, I’ve been able to continue making multiple payments per month.

I refinanced my private student loan with Earnest in 2018. It was a great move. Refinancing my loans helped me get a lower interest rate. Refinancing your student loans may help you as well. If you’re approved for refinancing, you will also get a $200 bonus. Visit their site here today.

Resell Business

The reselling business is going great. I have items on several platforms including eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, and Craigslist. I sold something on 240 out of 365 of the days this year. That’s 26 days less than last year, but I made more income. I started focusing on things that have higher returns. If you want to see some of my thrift hauls, make sure that you check out My Money Chronicles on Instagram.

I made between $20 – $80 each month on Merch by Amazon from January – October, then my account was terminated. I was pissed. I was making those sales via organic search. The design that made most of the sales was a questionable design that I couldn’t promote on any personal pages. I reviewed Amazon’s terms of service and I technically might have violated them. To be honest, if my designs were that bad, Amazon should not have approved them. All shirt designs go through a process before they are approved. I’m trying to understand what happened in my situation. I appealed twice and was denied twice.  Because of this, I’m going to spend less time on t-shirts next year. Right now, it’s not worth it.

I’m going to go through the items that are on Redbubble and Teespring and delete the things that haven’t had at least one sale. I’m also not going to waste money on that many designs next year unless I get feedback from my close friends before I launch it.

I’ll probably do a Youtube video on how I got kicked off Merch. Make sure that you are subscribed to the My Money Chronicles channel here.

2021 was a year for growth. As I stated earlier, I’m working remotely now and my reselling business is growing. I also did very well with my business income this year. Next year, I plan to keep growing and making things happen.
