About
Has anyone else made money mistakes before?
I’m not the only one. Here’s a little bit about my background. I’m Jason Butler. May 10th, 2008, was one of the greatest days of my life. It was the day that I graduated from college (Savannah State University). After five years, I could finally call myself a college graduate. I knew that high paying job was right around the corner. Well, it wasn’t. It took me a year and a half to get my first full-time job.
After a few years of some ups and downs, I realized that I needed to get serious about some things. Paying off my debt was one of them. I started this journey with over $72,000 worth of debt. I realized that I couldn’t make any power moves in life with that much amount of debt. Some things had to change.
I had to figure out how to create additional streams of income to help me get rid of this debt quicker. In 2015, I got focused and started trying out different side hustles. Some of the ones that I’ve been successful at are:
Selling Things on eBay
This is one of my favorite side hustles. I’ve been selling on eBay on and off for ten years. I started to get more serious about it in 2016. Since then, I’ve been able to grow a consistent side hustle income with it. I currently make between $700 – $1000 per month in my spare time.
Selling T-Shirts
I love selling shirts. Two of the platforms that I use are Teespring and Merch By Amazon. 2019 was a pretty good year for me when it came to selling t-shirts. 2020 will be even better.
Freelance Writing
Freelance writing is another side hustle that I’ve done. It’s easy money when you can get clients. I stopped freelancing in 2018. I realized that it wasn’t for me.
I created My Money Chronicles for a few reasons:
To document my debt reduction journey. I want y’all to go through this journey with me. I want y’all to see the ups and downs of this journey.
To talk about travel. I love to travel. It is my anti-drug. I’ve been able to visit wonderful places such as Chicago, Havana, Cuba, and Miami without going broke. I’m convinced that you can do the same thing.
To discuss finances and side hustles. People need to be educated about money. It’s a taboo subject for a lot of people, but it shouldn’t be.
How I Can Help You
After having years of banking and financial aid experience, I understand a lot more about money than I did a few years ago. You will learn a lot on this blog about side hustles, debt, personal finance and more. You will also learn from some of the mistakes that I made. I messed up a lot in my twenties. I don’t want you to go through any of it.
