How long have you been operating your business?
This is year 10 for me. I started the business in July 2015.
2. Business Journey
What inspired you to start your business?
At the time I started my business, I had been working in Human Resources for over 5 years. I would speak to the employees about their goals and pain points. These conversations were a normal Tuesday for me and the best part of my job. I wanted to start a business for many years and follow in my parents’ footsteps. Both were business owners. They were my inspiration to start ShareTheRich.
How did you transition from idea to execution?
I had a coach. She was awesome and helped me on a personal and professional level. Initially, I didn’t hire her for business coaching. She brought my dreams to the surface, and once I shared that I had always wanted to start a business, she helped me make it a reality.
What were the initial challenges you faced?
Myself. My self-doubt, fear of being vulnerable. Those were major challenges I had to overcome. Additionally, I thought I had to have everything perfect and figured out before launching the business. This is a common misconception.
3. Strategic Moves
What does a typical day look like for you?
I am a 9-5, 5-9er. I am not sure if that is a real phrase, but I like it. I have a 9-5 as a Salesforce Administrator/Project Manager. After my 9-5, I work on my business. I work on resumes, take coaching calls with clients, and complete administrative tasks.
How do you manage and prioritize tasks?
I have a to-do list that includes Hot, mild, and lukewarm tasks. This keeps me centered. I also add resume orders, coaching calls, and other tasks to my calendar so nothing slips through the cracks.
What tools or systems do you use to run your business?
I use Jotform for my initial intake forms and client onboarding, as well as QuickBooks, Squarespace, Square, Canva, Google Spreadsheets, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
4. Financial Insights
What was your initial investment?
My initial investment was around $2,500. This investment included my website, branding/logo, coaching, promotional materials, and administrative system subscriptions.
How has your revenue grown over time?
My revenue has grown gradually over time. After the COVID-19 pandemic, my revenue grew tremendously. After I was laid off in 2020, I ran the business full-time from February 2020 to November 2021. During this time, I increased my effort on social media content and also adjusted my free coaching call offering from 45 minutes to 30 minutes, enabling me to take more coaching calls per day. 85% of the time, a free coaching call ends in a resume order.
If it doesn’t at that time, then that person returns when they are ready and refers me to their network. Having one stream of income when you used to have multiple makes you go into a hyper-grind mode. I am grateful for that because I saw what I could accomplish with the business when I put 100% of my time into it.
How do you manage cash flow and profitability?
I utilize tools such as QuickBooks, Squarespace, PayPal, and Square. When I first started, I used spreadsheets. I also have an amazing business accountant!
5. Growth & Outreach
What marketing strategies have been most effective for you?
Human content. Business content mixed with some personnel. Additionally, not being overly reliant on social media. Diversify how you reach people. Also, keep your branding familiar. When you make a post, be sure to add your logo so people associate the post with your content, even if the post doesn’t include a picture of you.
What marketing channels have been most effective for your business?
Social media, email distribution lists via newsletter subscriptions, neighborhood apps like Nextdoor, attending events where business owners gather, and networking. Let people know what you do.
Have you leveraged social media or other platforms for growth?
Yes, Instagram and Facebook
6. Challenges & Lessons Learned
What significant challenges have you encountered?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the COVID-19 pandemic. The world shut down, so no one was looking for resume services. During this time, I met people where they were by offering free career coaching sessions, LinkedIn tutorials, and support to job seekers and business owners who were experiencing the same challenges I was.
How did you overcome them?
Don’t let panic set in. Instead, address challenges head-on with an assessment and then a plan of action. Sometimes you have to pivot your offerings; other times, you have to be less sales-driven and more human-driven.
What lessons have you learned that you’d share with aspiring entrepreneurs?
After 10 years as an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that consistency beats perfection, relationships are just as valuable as revenue, and clarity in your purpose keeps you grounded through the highs and lows. Growth doesn’t always look like numbers; sometimes it’s in the confidence, resilience, and boundaries you build along the way. I am so much more sure of myself now than I was 10 years ago.
7. Future Plans
What are your short-term and long-term goals?
Short term
Develop a 30-day social media content calendar that aligns with my brand goals. I do impersonations, so I wanted to find creative ways to merge that with my business content.
Reach 2K followers on IG.
Land 2-3 more speaking engagements by the end of the year
Be more active on YouTube and LinkedIn (content)
Long-term
Secure 3–5 strategic partnerships to expand visibility or offer bundled services.
Hire an intern
Reach 10K+ followers on Instagram.
Build a nonprofit arm of the business to give back and support causes aligned with your mission.
Are there any new projects or expansions on the horizon?
I am working on a Salesforce professional development project with Minority Leaders. This project focuses on getting these leaders Salesforce certified and helping them land jobs and internships within the Salesforce industry.
How do you plan to scale your business?
My plan to scale involves a combination of systematizing my core services, expanding my digital offerings, and building strategic partnerships. My plan is to develop scalable products—like digital courses, resume templates, and coaching programs—that allow me to serve more people without trading time for money. Finally, I want to grow my visibility through speaking engagements, partnerships, and thought leadership, which helps build brand trust and attract new audiences. As the business grows, I’ll also bring on support roles to maintain quality while expanding impact.
8. Personal Insights
How do you balance work and personal life?
I set realistic expectations for turnaround times to manage my workload, personal life, and customers’ expectations. I take breaks when needed, because burnout is a real thing. Burnout can sometimes trick you into giving up. So, I handle the balance between work and personal life with care.
What motivates you to keep going?
I am doing valuable work. Helping people customize their resumes, build professional development skills, land interviews, and secure job offers – I am helping to change lives. Over the past 10 years, I’ve had moments when I’ve wanted to put the business on the back burner, but I know someone out there needs my help. The work is fulfilling for me.
If you could have dinner with any entrepreneur, who would it be and why?
Rihanna!
Rihanna! I’d love to have dinner with Rihanna. She’s built a brand that’s not only profitable but purpose-driven, redefining beauty standards and inclusivity in ways that impact culture. I admire how she balances creativity, business, and authenticity—and I’d love to hear how she trusts her instincts when taking big risks.
9. Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Even though you are just starting out, set up your business as if it’s already thriving. If you provide a service, go ahead and look into a scheduling/booking service. Go ahead and secure a tax professional for your business taxes. Go ahead and open that business account. If this is too costly, at least research these things so when your business starts to pick up you aren’t reacting to the need, you already have the solution in place.
What do you wish you knew before starting your business?
I wish I knew that running a business is as much about managing yourself as it is about managing the work. It’s not just about having a great idea or strong skills; it’s about learning to navigate uncertainty, set boundaries, and ask for help when needed. I’m so happy that I have improved in that area.
How can one stay resilient during tough times?
Stay consistent. Your post only gets three views. Stay consistent. Your sales were low for 2 months in a row? Stay consistent. Do not expect immediate gratification; instead, see being a business owner as a marathon, not a sprint.
10. Fun Rapid-Fire Round
What’s your favorite productivity hack?
I set a timer for 45 minutes. I work and don’t look at my phone at all. Then I take a 15-minute break, and then I set the timer again for 45 minutes. The focus is needed. After a while, I don’t need the breaks as much.
If your business had a theme song, what would it be?
All the Way Up” – Fat Joe & Remy Ma
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I don’t know if it’s fun, but I am a huge fan of Batman (The Dark Knight), Jurassic Park, and Stranger Things. I watch these shows and movies over and over again every week. LOL
